Episode 29: Training kids to walk out real Christianity

It seems like everybody in church can "talk the talk".

They can say the Christian thing, know the expected Christian response, and if we only went by their verbiage, that would make us all super-Christians.

But how many are "walking the walk"? What does that even look like? And most importantly, how can we raise up our kids to have real life change, not just say what is expected???

This could be one of the most important challenges as a parent, so listen and share this episode!

Episode 28: In Him Realities in your Family (video)

Watch Now:

We are "In Him", but what does that even mean?

How do we know when we are living "In Christ"? How can we raise our kids to have this understanding?

In this episode, we talk about how the moment we become saved, God gives us Himself - He in us, and we in Him. It doesn't matter how we feel. Your choices don't even matter. What does matter is that we begin to think about ourselves as we truly are - made new in Him!

We give a few ways to help your kids begin to think about themselves this way, but here's one that we wanted to give you the link to: Watching the old movie, "The Ugly Dachshund" by Disney, then talking about how the Great Dane started the movie thinking he was a Dachshund, but when he came to realize who he really was, he became a champion.

You can get this movie from most libraries and Netflix has the DVD as well. You can also rent it from most online streaming places for about $3. CLICK HERE to see some links to watch it!

Episode 27: Who are you really? (video)

Watch Now:

Many of us have ideas about who we are... well, there's a bunch of us that still feel like they are on that journey of discovery as well.

Today, we talk about a reality that needs to be a major player in setting how our kids (and we) think about who we are as Christians. We tackle a vastly misunderstood aspect, and hopefully you learn a few things as you laugh along with us discovering the power in this one word.

What is it? Listen to the episode!

Episode 26: Encourging Kingdom Perspectives in your Kids (audio)

God didn't call His people to be like those all around us who don't know Him. He didn't even call His people to be similar.

God wants our lives to be so unlike those who don't know Him that it stirs the unsaved to learn more about Him.

But how we do raise up kids to think that living that different of a life is normal for Christians? What if others think that living the life that God has for us is weird, or strange, or so foreign that they don't understand it?

It's time for our kids to be the light that God wants in this world, and helping them recognize where we are not shining is the first step.

Here's the phrase you will hear a lot in the upcoming weeks:
If you want the life that the world has,
do what the world says to do.

If you want the life that God has for you,
do what the Word says to do.

This week, we evaluate the results of those lifestyles, and it becomes pretty evident pretty quick which one is better!

Episode 25: “I don’t know!!!” (video)

Watch Now:

How many times have you heard your kids say this? How often do you say it?

If we are going to help our kids stop responding this way, then we need to stop exemplifying it in front of them. There are many times when we have questions about God's plan, about what to do, about who to trust or when to jump into something. And yet, God has a key, just waiting for us, and He will provide it liberally, regardless if you have lived "perfect" recently or not.

Want to know more? Then listen up, and see what God might be speaking to you through this podcast!

Episode 24: Helping my kids hear God’s voice (video)

Watch Now:

We all LOVE the Old Testament, the acts of faith, the accounts that are fun to read, but sometimes make NO sense to the "natural" mind! God used supernatural wonders and all kinds of ways to speak to His people, but does God still speak this way today? To me as a parent? To my kids? Stretch your expectations as a family to hear Him all day in everything. Is that possible!? We know it is, but try it and see what He does!!!

Family Time Activity:

  • Give everyone (including the parents) some modeling clay, play dough, or a sheet of paper.
  • Ask everyone to think of something to create, draw, build, etc. in 5 minutes (adjust the time if needed - you know your kids!)
  • Go around the table and have everyone show/explain what they created or were trying to make.
  • Then, look up Ezekiel 4:1-3 to see God telling Ezekiel to draw pictures and build models, and to use them to communicate what God is thinking!
  • Next, ask God to use each other's creations to tell us something encouraging or helpful.
  • Share with each other any ideas that pop in your head that would be kind, loving or helpful about the others around your table.
  • (You may want to require that the kids speak encouraging words about each other - it's great practice!)
  • Then encourage your family - even if it was tough to come up with something encouraging or uplifting to share about the others at the table, don't worry! The more we practice, the more we will hear God's voice and think about each other the way that God does!
