Episode 34: What does Jesus want this Christmas? (video)

Watch Now:

In the month that we celebrate Christmas, we rarely celebrate Jesus without being highly intentional in this overly-filled twenty some days!

Root Family Bible this week, we talked about Zechariah, Elizabeth and John the Baptist, but what can we learn from their lives that would impact us today? One of the truths was this: just like they had good works to do that would prepare the way for Jesus to come, we also have good works that God has predestined before the creation of the world for us to do to usher in Jesus' second coming!

Listen to this podcast to learn some of the ways that Jesus would want us to think, speak and act this Christmas season that would truly celebrate Him and why He came.

Episode 33: Creating a heart of Thankfulness (audio)

Thanksgiving is something that God asks of us. We even acknowledge that, because of God's goodness to us and how privileged we are in this country, it should be flowing from us and from our kids continually. So why isn't it? Why do feel like we are always reminding our kids to be thankful? Why is it that we are not overflowing with joy at all times?

That's what this podcast is all about! Overwhelmed with thankfulness doesn't happen without focus. And we want to help you focus on what is real, what is true, so that they out of that root focus springs the fruit of thanksgiving. Real, heart-felt thanksgiving doesn't come from external pressure. External pressure reminds us to switch our focus. Real, heart-felt thanksgiving overflows out of a person. It comes from an internal adjustment. It comes from a continual internal focus and meditation on the things we talk about in this podcast!

We also end with an encouragement to take communion as a family over this Thanksgiving break (American holiday) or over this weekend. And it's not as hard as you may think. Simply read the verses in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, and do what it says as you go through it!

Episode 32: How can I help my child to be more like Jesus? (video)

Watch Now:

How can I help my child to be more like Jesus?

Could you make a pretty good list of the strengths and the "rough areas" in each of your children?

Many of us can, and would LOVE to see those rough areas smoothed out, or even become strengths in our kids. But how can we do that? It seems like every day we become more familiar with our shortcomings as parents and are reminded how we don't have all the answers. So, how can we help our kids to become more like Jesus?

You can teach them through using a simple example using seeds! We going into more detail in this podcast, plus a whole lot more.

(This one builds on last week's podcast, so you'll want to listen to both this one and Episode 31. It's titled "A Life of Success")

Links mentioned in this podcast:

  • Family Advent Traditions Kit - a great way to start some fun traditions that remind everyone about how amazing Jesus is during this season, and that the kids look forward to every year!
  • Salvation Booklet for kids and teens - this booklet helps make the whole salvation process more clear to a kid, and even enables them to easily walk others into salvation. It is worth the couple bucks to go through as a family!

Episode 31: A Life of Success (video)

Watch Now:

What is godly success?

We all want to have a life of success, and we REALLY want our kids to have a life of success, but what is success in the Kingdom? What would a successful life be like for someone who is endeavoring to be a walking example of righteousness daily? (acronym: WEIRD)

Being success, both in the Kingdom and in the natural, depends greatly on your consistency. As one wise man once said, "Anything worth doing is worth doing daily." John Maxwell said, "The secret of your success is determined by your daily agenda." Even Jesus said we need to "take up your cross daily and follow Me."

"Each new day, I will seek You in every way." - Kate Richter

Episode 30: Guiding your kids to be an example for Christ (video)

Watch Now:

We all want to have the kids that are amazing examples of what true Christianity really is, but how do we help them get there?

Guess what? It's not by perfect parenting, or even being the perfect example for them to follow. Your kids will become the example that God wants them to be as you prayerfully coach them into it. (Big difference.)

In this episode, we present some ideas and ways to do that, without putting extra pressure on you as a parent? Sound preposterous? Get ready for a perspective change on your role as a parent!

(and yes, all the "P" words were planned. :) )
